Local attractions

The cottage is well placed for exploring North Wales with its beautiful scenery.  Llangollen only 10
minutes away is renowned for it International Musical Eisteddfod, which this year will be held from

5 - 11 July 2010
.  It will also be holding its annual Hot Air Balloon Festival which takes place at the
Royal International Pavilion from
3 - 5 September 2010, there is the Llangollen Food Festival on the
16/17 October 2010, the Gardening Show - 5/6 June 2010, the Motorcycle Show - 7/8 August 2010
and the Llangollen Fringe arts and music festival -
16 - 24 July 2010.  There is also a Victorian
Steam Railway.  There are many family friendly restaurants and romantic little bistro’s based around

Also worth a visit is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which forms a key part of the Llangollen Canal,
stands majestically at the foot of the Horseshoe Pass, three miles east of Llangollen, crossing over
the River Dee at the dizzy height of 126 feet.

At over 1000 feet long, Pontcysyllte is the longest and highest cast-iron aqueduct in the world.
Treasured by British Waterways, it is today a protected Grade I listed building, a Welsh National
Monument and is one of the seven wonders of the British Inland Waterways System. It is of course
still used for its original purpose, being crossed by more than a thousand canal boats a year.

Nearby is the Llandegla Forest Mountain Bike Centre.    The centre has many biking trails suitable for
beginners, family and experienced bikers.  It also has some picturesque walking trails.  For peace of
mind, all tracks within the forest are completely enclosed.

If you fancy the high ropes, indoor climbing or archery  Plas Power Adventure is just a few miles
away.

The medieval town of Ruthin is a short drive away with the Ruthin Craft Centre, Ruthin Gaol, which
opened to the public in 2002 being well worth a visit.

THE MOLD FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL

The Mold Food and Drink Festival returns again to New Street (Somerfield) Car Park, Mold
on the 25th and 26th September 2010 . There's going to be a fabulous array of produce
and ready to eat cooked foods.  A fully tarmaced festival site - no risk of mud.
